Do you do most of your shopping at either Walmart or Costco and would like to find a way to earn cash-back just for doing so?
Then one of the following cards in the article may well be a good fit for you.

In this article, I’m going to review and compare the Capital One Walmart Rewards Card versus the Costco Anywhere Visa Card.

Basically, I’ll go into detail about what each card offers in terms of benefits and user perks and how you can earn cash back just by using the cards.

So Who Are These Cards Good For?

Both of these cards are directly targeted at people who shop at either Costco or Walmart.
Each card provides the opportunity to earn cash back just by using the card, and both offer the highest cash back opportunities if you shop at the store that is associated with the card.

It is also worth noting that the Costco card is exclusively for Costco Members, so you will have to purchase a membership with Costco first before you can apply for this card.
Also, the Costco Anywhere Visa Card can be used as proof of Costco membership ID, if you happen to forget your Costco ID.

APR

Now let’s take a look at the APR of each card.

Capital One Walmart Rewards Card

Starting with the Capital One Walmart Rewards Mastercard you will have a variable rate of 17.99%, 23.24%, or 26.99% depending on what your creditworthiness is.
The APR for Cash advances is a variable rate of 26.99%

Costco Anywhere Visa

Next up, with the Costco Anywhere Visa card, you will have a standard variable APR for purchases of 15.24%, and the APR for Cash advances is 25.24%.

So for this section, the Costco Anywhere Visa card does offer a lower APR for both general purchases and cash advances.

Earning Cash-Back

Next up, let’s take a look at how much cashback you can earn with each card.

Capital One Walmart Rewards Card

Starting with the Capital One Walmart Rewards Card you will earn 5% cash-back for all purchases that are made at walmart.com or the Walmart app, and this includes pick-up and delivery.
And for the first 12 months of card ownership, you will also receive 5% cash back in stores when using the card in conjunction with Walmart Pay.

You will then earn 2% cash-back at restaurants, travel, Walmart stores, and Fuel Stations.
And finally, all other purchases where Mastercard is accepted will earn 1% cash-back.

Costco Anywhere Visa

Now with the Costco Anywhere Visa card, you will earn 4% cash-back at gas stations (including Costco Gas stations) up to $7,000 per year, anything after this will revert to 1% cash-back.

Next up, you will earn 3% cash back at restaurants, cafes, bars, and fast-food restaurants.
You will also get 3% cash back on travel purchases worldwide, which include hotels, airfares, car rentals, cruise lines, and Costco Travel.
All other purchases made at Costco will earn 2% cash-back.
And finally, all other purchases will earn 1% cash-back.

So for this section, the Costco Anywhere Visa card does offer a slightly better cash back earning potential than the Capital One Walmart Rewards card.

Benefits and User Perks

Next up, let’s go over what benefits and insurance-related perks come with each card.

Capital One Walmart Rewards Card

Starting with the Capital One Walmart Rewards Card you will get $0 Fraud Liability which means that you won’t be responsible for any unauthorized charges that are made to your card if it is lost or stolen

You will have access to Card Lock which gives you the ability to lock the card if it is lost or stolen.

And finally, you will be able to set up security alerts that can notify you by email, text, or phone about any suspicious activity that may happen to your account.

Costco Anywhere Visa

Next up, with the Costco Anywhere Visa card, you will get damage and theft protection for up to 120 days (or 90 days for New York Residence).
And this will cover you for repairs or a refund of any purchases that are made with the card that become damaged or are stolen.

You will have access to Citi Entertainment which gives you special access to different events such as sporting events, concerts, and dining experiences.

And finally, there are no foreign transaction fees with this card.

So for this section, I would personally choose the Costco Anywhere Visa card as it offers some slightly more useful benefits than the Capital One Walmart Rewards card.

Final Thoughts

So what are my thoughts about these two credit cards?

I believe both cards offer decent value, especially if you do most of your shopping at either Walmart or Costco.
The fact that you can earn cash back just for shopping at a store that you already shop at only makes sense to me.
If you shop at both stores then it could be beneficial to have both cards.

Now there are some similar cash back credit cards that actually offer a sign-up bonus and more benefits,
But they can be a bit strict as to where you can actually earn cash back from.
The Chase Freedom Flex Card is a really good card to consider, but it excludes Walmart and target from its grocery category, so it might not suit everyone.

I think choosing the right card just comes down to where you do most of your shopping.

The only thing to really take into account is that you will need to pay to be a Costco Member (if you’re not already one) and pricing starts at $60 a year.)
