Just this week American Express and Marriott Bonvoy announced new upgrades to the Marriott Bonvoy Business American Express Card.
These benefits include the ability to now earn 4x points for purchases at restaurants worldwide, which was previously limited to just restaurants located within the US.
There is also the ability to now receive a 7% Room Rate Discount on certain Marriott hotel bookings.
In this article, I’m going to review the Marriott Bonvoy Business American Express Card.
Basically, I’ll go over all of the newly added benefits of this card and go over everything else the card has to offer.
So Who Is This Card Good For?
The Marriott BonvoyBusinessCredit Card is a great card for business owners and freelancers that are looking to take advance of a whole host of benefits that are offered through the Marriott Bonvoy program.
This card has a great sign-up bonus at the moment that is worth $1,000 and a few new enhancements which make it quite a valuable credit card.
Annual Fee
The annual fee of the Marriott Bonvoy BusinessCredit Card has not changed and is still $125 each year.
which considering the value of the sign-up bonus and the benefits that come with it, is pretty reasonable.
Sign-up Bonus
Now until the end of August, the sign-up bonus with the Marriott Bonvoy Business Credit Card has been increased from 75,000 points to 125,000 Marriott Bonvoy Bonus Points.
And this is available to you if you can manage to spend at least $5,000 within the first 3 months of opening the account.
Now with these points being worth approximately 0.8 cents per point, this sign-up bonus is worth about $1,000.
Which is fantastic value, it easily covers the cost of the annual fee for quite a few years.
Points Earning Potential
Now when it comes to earning points with the Marriott Bonvoy Business Credit Card there’re a few decent options.
The first is the ability to earn 6x points per dollar spent as hotels that are part of the Marriot Bonvoy Program, and according to Nerdwallet there are currently over 7,000 participating hotels.
From here it is then possible to earn 4x points per dollar spent on the following purchases:
- Restaurants worldwide
- US Gas stations
- Wireless telephone services that have been purchased directly from US service providers
- US shipping purchases.
And then finally all other purchases that are made on the card will receive 2x points.
So there is quite a decent potential to earn a lot of points.
Benefits And Perks
Now when it comes to perks and benefits there are a few new additions to this card which include the ability to receive a 7% discount on standard room rates when bookings are made directly through a Marriott channel and by using the card.
But it does not include the following properties:
- Design Hotels
- Marriott Executive Apartments
- Marriott Vacation Club
- Marriott Grand Residence Club
- Vistana Signature Network
- Vistana Residence Network
- The Ritz-Carlton Destination Club
- All-Inclusive by Marriott Bonvoy
- Homes & Villas by Marriott International
Another new benefit that comes with this card is the ability to now earn Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status, previously the card only offered Silver Elite status and the ability to earn Gold if you spent $35,000 on the card in a calendar year.
And Gold Elite status is only given to customers that stay at least 25 nights at a Marriott property in a given year.
So this is a nice little upgrade and includes benefits such as:
- 25% more points on hotel purchases
- 2 pm late check-out (if available)
- Enhanced Room Upgrade
There is also the ability to receive one free night award each year after you renew the card.
And this has a redemption level of up to 35,000 Marriott Bonvoy points, which is worth up to $280 based on points beings worth 0.8 cents per point.
Now if you manage to spend $60,000 or more on the card within a calendar year it is possible to earn an additional Free Night Award.
Then each calendar year it is possible to earn 15 Elite Night Credits that can be used to bring you up to the next status level which in this case would be Platinum Elite Status which requires 50 nights of stay at a Marriott property each year.
And finally, there is access to the Marriott Bonvoy Air+Car Transfer Program which allows cardholders to redeem Marriott Bonvoy points for flights and car rentals at literally hundreds of different travel partners located around the world.
But just note there is a $20 Booking fee for both airline tickets and car rental reservations.
Insurance Coverage
Now the Marriott Bonvoy Business Credit Card also comes with some decent insurance-related coverage which includes:
Car Rental Loss and Damage Insurance that covers up to $50,000 in the event of any damage or theft of a rental vehicle.
Then there is a Baggage Insurance Plan that covers lost, damaged, or stolen luggage for up to $1,250 for carry-on baggage and $500 for checked baggage.
With Purchase Protection there is 90 days of coverage for new purchases that covers up to $1,000 per occurrence and $50,000 per card per year.
And finally with as with most Amex cards there is Extended Warranty Protection that provides an additional year of coverage on Warranties that are 5 years or less, and this covers up to $10,000 per covered purchase and a total of $50,000 per year.
APR
So finally, let’s take a quick look at the APR and associated fees that come with this card.
Currently, the APR for purchases with this card is between 17.24% – 26.24%.
Getting a Cash Advance will have an APR of 26.74% and will also incur a fee of either $5 or 3% of the amount of each cash advance, whichever amount is more.
Any late payments, missed payments, or payments that are returned by your bank will incur a fee of up to $39 each.
And if either of these instances occurs it is more than likely that you will be put on a Penalty APR of 29.99%.
Finally, there are no foreign transaction fees associated with this card, which makes using the card overseas nice and easy.
Final Thoughts
So all in all, the Marriott Bonvoy Business American Express Card offers some great benefits and perks, and a sign-up bonus that is worth $1,000.
I personally think that this card is great value and definitely worth considering if you travel a fair amount throughout the year and stay at quite a lot of hotels.
