Luggage Buyers Guide

Traveling is something that most people enjoy. Whether you are going somewhere new or old, within the country or abroad, one of the things you don’t want to worry about is the quality of your luggage.
Finding the right luggage means determining what you need and finding a brand that can deliver a durable product.

If you spend a bit of time searching the web, you will quickly realize that the average cost for a single piece of quality luggage is usually between $200 and $300. You should be suspicious of anything that costs less than that. Take some time to read the reviews and you will start to see just how much better the pricier pieces are.

You are paying for luggage that will hold up under almost any conditions.

It’s all right if you aren’t looking for something permanent. If you are taking a short trip and need something immediately, you can purchase a single piece to hold you over for now.

For these instances, a cheap bag will do just fine because you don’t plan to use it for decades. Still, you want something that isn’t going to fall apart the first time you use it.

Quick Comparison

If you don’t have a lot of time to check out everything (or if you just don’t want to dedicate a lot of time to flipping through every page), you can check out the quick comparison page.
You can quickly check out the types of information about each piece of luggage so that you can quickly make your decision.

Details include information on the type of features each piece has, type of luggage, and dimensions. There are a few types of luggage pieces included:

If something catches your eye or you decide that it doesn’t quite answer all of your questions, there are links on the page to check out the details for each of the pieces listed.

Seeing What Others Have Said

One of the best reasons to research items online is that you can see what people think of the product they have purchased. People who have purchased the different pieces have a lot to say and can provide a little bit more about the bag not covered by the descriptions. Here are the few things that reviews tend to identify that may not be mentioned elsewhere.

Soft or Hard Exterior

Usually, this is not covered in the description, and it isn’t always obvious if the outside of a piece of luggage is hard or soft. If you need something that is really durable and able to keep items safe, you probably want something with a hard exterior. If you need something that can be easily squeezed into difficult spaces, you are going to want something softer. There are other pros and cons to both types, making it something you should consider before reaching a final decision.

Appearance and Weight

There will be times when you want something light so that you can make a mad dash across the airport if you end up with little time between connecting flights.

Other times you will want something that is going to last you a long time, which means it is probably going to be a bit heavier.

The weight of your luggage is probably obvious in its appearance. As you compare the different types, you will begin to notice similarities between the different lightweight pieces; heavier bags tend to have their own similarities.

Wheels – When It Matters

Sometimes wheels are the only way to haul your stuff. Other times, they are the bane of traveling. Here are some of the things you should consider to make sure you get the right luggage based on if it has wheels, and if so, how many.

Your Options – 0, 2, 4, 8 Wheels

Luggage has changed a lot in 20 years.

Some pieces come with no wheels or a typical pair of wheels.
But what if you are traveling for a long period of time or with a family?
You will want a bigger piece to carry everything. To accommodate, luggage now comes with 4 and 8 wheels.

Wheels on a Plane

Wheels can be a problem when you need to stow your luggage the bigger bags usually have to be checked, which means paying more. If you need something with wheels, make sure that it will still fit in the overhead bin.

Duffle Bags and Backpacks

They tend to be light and easy to stow, which makes both duffle bags and backpacks popular. However, they don’t look as professional and are more likely to wrinkle your clothing.
If you are going on vacation, this probably isn’t an issue. If you are on a business trip or heading to a fancy event, you probably want something a little bit nicer.

Diving In

Now that you’ve had some time to think about the different considerations, it’s time to start comparing your options. If you are in a rush, don’t forget you can check out the quick comparison.
