Are you looking for a cash-back credit card that has a decent sign-up bonus, some nice perks, and user benefits and has no annual fee?
Then the Citibank Custom Cash card may well be a good choice for you.
In this article, I will review the Citi Custom Cash Card. I’ll go over what the card offer in terms of benefits and user perks, and then I’ll decide if the card is worth it.
Who Is The Citi Custom Cash Card Good For?
The Citi Custom Cash card is a good card for anybody new to credit cards as it is relatively easy to get approved for and doesn’t have an annual fee.
It has a relatively generous sign-up bonus and the ability to earn cash-back on all purchases made with the card.
APR
For the first 15 months of card ownership you will get an intro APR of 0%, After this, the APR will be between 13.99% – 23.99% depending on what your creditworthiness is.
And any balance transfers must be completed within 4 months of opening the account,
Sign-up Bonus
Now when it comes to the sign-up bonus of this card, you can earn $200 cash-back after you have spent $750 on purchases within the first 3 months of opening the account.
And I think this is a pretty decent sign-up bonus, and to receive it you will need to spend $250 per month or $62.50 per week for a total of 3 months.
Earning Cash Back
Earning cash-back with this card is relatively straightforward.
Basically, you will receive 5% cash-back on the first $500 in purchases from your top spending category, which includes the following categories:
Restaurants, Gas Stations, Grocery Stores, Select Travel, Select Transit, Select Streaming Services, Drugstores, Home Improvement Stores, Fitness Clubs, and Live Entertainment.
All other purchases after this will receive unlimited 1% cash-back.
So if you’re able to spend all of the $500 in the correct category each month you will effectively earn $25 cash-back rewards each month.
In total, you can earn up to $300 each year just from the 5% cash-back rewards.
And then if you spend more on the card, you will still receive 1% cash-back.
Benefits and User Perks
So from here let’s look at the benefits and user perks that are offered with this card.
And seeing that it is essentially a free card, you don’t get that many benefits.
First of all, you will have access to the Citi Entertainment program, and this gives you access to music, sports, culinary experiences, and more.
There is also 24/7 customer service if you are in need of any help associated with your card.
You will be covered for any unauthorized charges that are made to your account with $0 liability, so if for any reason there is an unusual charge to your card that you didn’t make, you won’t have to pay for it.
There is also a service that you will receive call Citi Quick Lock, and this is basically a safety measure for your card.
It will give you the option to block any new charges that are made to your card, whilst allowing any recurring charges to continue without any disruption.
You will also be given free access to your FICO score with to impact on your credit score, and it is updated each month.
And this is a nice tool to have, as you can closely monitor your credit score to make sure you are not negatively affecting it.
There is Mastercard ID Theft Protection which is a service provided by Mastercard, and with this, it will monitor your account for any unusual activity and alert you if anything suspicious does happen.
And finally, you will also get Fraud Early Warning, which is similar to Mastercard Theft Protection.
It also will monitor your account and there are any unusual transactions they will contact you to validate it and make the appropriate action so as to protect your account.
Final Thoughts Of The Citi Custom Cash Card
So what are my thoughts about this card?
I think the Citi Custom Cash card is a pretty good card and does offer some reasonable value.
With its $200 sign-up bonus and the ability to earn 5% cash-back on the first $500 spent each month on your top spending category, it has the potential to earn you at least $500 in rewards for the first year of card ownership, and $300 per year thereafter.
Another cash-back card that is also free on an annual basis but offers quite a lot more in terms of cash-back, benefits, user perks, and Insurance related benefits is the Chase Freedom Flex Credit Card.
