Over the past few years, I have been traveling constantly for work which has given me the opportunity of visiting a whole range of interesting places to explore and enjoy.
During this time I have slowly acquired quite a decent amount of photography gear, which I use for travel and automotive photography, and also crediting videos for my YouTube channels.
After quite literally running out of space with my previous camera bag, I felt the need to upgrade to a slightly larger, better-quality camera sling that could contain all of my gear (which is a fair amount as you will see in the photos below).
As I spend a large part of my day out filming and taking photos, the extra space that the Ranger DSLR sling offers has really made my work a lot easier.
Design
What initially drew me to the Ranger DSLR sling initially was the nice Glacier Camo design, although it does come in a solid black color if you’re not a fan of the camo finish.
Also, the fact that it has more than enough room to carry all of my camera gear was key.
Below is a list of what I carry on a daily basis when I am out taking photos or filming:
- Sony a7C Mirrorless Camera
- Rode VideoMic Pro+
- 2 Sony NP-FZ100 Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Batteries
- Ulzani Iron Man IV phone clip
- DJI OM 4 SE Smartphone Gimbal
- BOLING Pocket LED RGB Video Light
- Peak Design Carbon Fiber Tripod
Amazingly enough this camera sling actually easily carries all of the equipment I mentioned above with room to spare.
Also, it is still comfortable to carry pretty much all day long and does not get in the way when shooting.
I have not used it in the rain yet as I have been in Monaco for the past few weeks and it has been pretty dry, but according to the HEX, it has a water-repellent fabric shell which is nice to know if it does happen to start raining, at least your equipment will stay safe and dry.
At the very front of the camera sling, there is a nice fleece-lined pocket that measures 10″x 6.5″ and is perfect for storing your mobile phone or sunglasses, and apparently, it is large enough to fit an iPad Mini.
The adjustable carry strap at the bottom of the camera sling is perfect for my tripod, it tightens up more than enough and supports my tripod without any worries.
Specs
The general specs of the Ranger Glacier Camo DSLR Sling V2 are:
- Dimensions: 14.5″L x 7.5″W x 4.75″D
- Weight: 1.3lbs
- Capacity: 8L
- Front Pocket: 10″ x 6.5″
What I like about the Ranger DSLR Sling from HEX
I have been peasantry surprised with the Ranger DSLR sling over the past few weeks.
It has been perfectly comfortable for me to carry and walk at least 8 km each day without any discomfort.
The adjustable padded strap cover really is nice and makes wearing the camera sling quite comfortable, my previous camera bag didn’t have a padded strap which caused the strap to eventually dig into my shoulder which was uncomfortable, but with this camera sling, this no longer happens.
Another nice aspect of the sling is that I can fold it out flat and put it in my suitcase when I am traveling as it has collapsible interior dividers, which gives me one less thing to carry when I do go on a trip.
