With the introduction of the American Express Centurion art card last year, Amex has now introduced a similar option to their Platinum card.
In this article, I’m going to take a look at all of the designs that are available on both the American Express Centurion Card and the Platinum card.
I will also talk about who the artists are and then I’ll walk you through the steps to take if you want to change your current Amex Platinum Card to one of these new designs.

Who Are The Featured Artists?
Both the Platinum Amex and the Centurion card have three featured artists to choose from, with the Centurion card you will have two options to choose from, the first is by Kehinde Wiley and the second is by Rem Koolhaas.
And with the Platinum card, you will also have two choices to choose from, the first choice is by Kehinde Wiley again but with a slightly different design to what is on offer with the Centurion card, then the second option is by Julie Mehretu.
The first design choice that you will have with the Centurion card and only with the Centurion card is by Rem Koolhaas, who is a Dutch architect and professor in the practice of Architecture of Design at Harvard University.
Koolhass has quite a lot of notable buildings and projects that he has been a part of over the years.
In the early 2000’s he designed some stores for the fashion brand, Prada, in Beverly Hills and New York City, with the store in Manhattan costing an estimated $32 million dollars to build.
The second design option is available for both the Amex Centurion and Platinum card is by the artist Kehinde Wiley who is an American artist that studied at both the San Francisco Art Institute and Yale University.
In 2017, Barack Obama the former president of the United States, choose Wiley to paint a portrait of him.
Apparently, he sold one of his pieces at a Sotheby’s auction for just over $649,200.
The last design choice that is only available for the Amex Platinum card is by visual artist Julie Mehretu.
Born in Ethiopia in 1970, she came to America in 1977.
Mehretu attended both the Kalamazoo College and the Rhode Island School of Design.
In 2020, she was included in Time magazine’s list of 100 most influential people, and in 2019 she sold one of her pieces at an Action through Sotheby’s Hong Kong for just over $5,631,998.
Now, this isn’t the first time that American Express has offered a special edition credit card.
Back in 2018, American Express offered the chance to receive a Limited edition Yellow Platinum Card that was apparently inspired by the singer Pharrell.
Amex said that the cards were available to Platinum cardholders that purchased a ticket to a black-tie event that was called the Yellow Ball, with tickets starting at $1,000.
And apparently, all of the proceeds were used to help the Young Audiences Arts for Learning.
Along with the new design options for the Centurion card, American Express is also offering the Prada x Centurion, which is a wearable Prada bracelet that is made up of scratch-resistant black Saffiano leather which is made in Italy and has a hidden payment chip inside.
How To Get The New Platinum Amex Design
Now if you are already a Platinum cardholder and would like to change your card to one of the newly designed cards, all you need to do is simply log in to your account, and then click where it says “Account Services’
Then from here, go to where it says ‘Replace a Card’ and click here.
And as you will see here you have quite a few options to choose from, If you just want to change the design, simply select the section where it says “I want to change my Cards Design’.
Once that is selected you will notice that it says that you can still use your existing card until you receive the replacement card, which is nice to know.
Now from here click continue.
After this you will see three different options to choose from:
The “Classic Platinum’
The Platinum x Kehinde Wiley
And finally the Platinum x Julie Mehretu.
So depending on what card you prefer, select one and then click continue.
On this new page, it will show you the card you selected, your preferred shipping address (which can be changed if needed), and then finally the shipping method.
